A brief history of Ercan Airport, a major aviation hub of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, from past to present.
Ercan Airport opened for civil flights on February 3, 1975, and the first civilian flight was operated with an F28 type aircraft with 65 seats.
On September 12, 1977, the Ercan Airport Terminal was opened.
On January 1, 2013, Ercan Airport began to be operated by T & T Ercan Airport Operations.
The New Ercan Airport was officially opened on July 20, 2023. With its modern design and annual capacity of 10 million passengers, our airport strengthens TRNC's international connections and represents a significant advancement for regional tourism and trade.
Authorized in 2013 for the operation of the existing Ercan Airport and the construction and operation of the new Ercan Airport.
T&T Airports Management Construction Industry and Trade Ltd. won the tender for the transfer of operating rights for the Ercan Airport of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on December 4, 2012. Our company signed the operating rights for Ercan Airport on December 10, 2012, and received the Airport Operating Certificate from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on January 7, 2013. Since January 9, 2013, it has successfully started operating the old Ercan Airport.
Following this process, the opening of the new Ercan Airport was held on July 20, 2023, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Ercan Airport is located 14 km from Nicosia, the capital of the TRNC, 40 km from Famagusta, and 44 km from Kyrenia.
Ercan Airport opened for civil flights on February 3, 1975, and the first civil flight was conducted with an F28 type aircraft with 65 seats.
On December 20, 1975, the short runway was put into service.
On June 15, 1976, the main runway came into service, and from this date, DC-9 and Boeing 727 type aircraft began using this runway.
On March 21, 1977, the Airport began providing air traffic services to aircraft.
On September 12, 1977, the new terminal building was opened. In the same year, the Technical building, Cargo Facilities, Fire Station, and Catering building were also opened.
On May 10, 2004, the terminal building was restored and reopened to raise its capacity to international standards.
In January 2013, the operating rights of Ercan Airport were transferred to T&T Airport Management Ltd., established by Taşyapı İnşaat and Terminal Yapı partnership.
The modern terminal building of the New Ercan Airport, completed by T&T Airport Management, was opened on July 20, 2023, and continues to provide comfortable, safe, and uninterrupted service to passengers.
